      Das finde ich aber echt blöd. Ein schönes Paar weniger zum Traden. War zwar in letzter Zeit nur selten im Cable dabei, aber es kommen bestimmt auch wieder Zeiten, wo man gerne auf den Cable zurückgreift. Was nimmt man denn als Alternative wenn der Cable weg ist?

      Sehe ich auch so, habe heute mit ein paar Leuten in LDN gequatscht, u.a. auch über die Zukunft des GBP, sogar die Tommies selbst sehen für das GBP mittelfristig keine Zukunft, wenn die Bevölkerung die Schwäche des GBP zu spüren bekommt - höhere Preise für Importwaren, teurere Urlaube in der EUR Zone - dann wird vermutlich der Beitritt GB's zum EUR nur mehr eine Frage der Zeit sein.

      Jim Rogers, chairman of Singapore-based Rogers Holdings, said the "U.K. is finished" and investors should sell the currency. Commonwealth Bank of Australia said there was a high risk of a cut to the country's credit rating outlook and lowered its pound forecast. Prime Minister Gordon Brown authorized a 100 billion pound ($142 billion) bailout for banks.

      "I would urge you to sell any sterling you might have," said Rogers. "It's finished. I hate to say it, but I would not put any money in the U.K." Rogers correctly predicted the start of the commodities rally in 1999.

      Rogers said the currency will fall below its record low of $1.0520 reached in February 1985.

      LONDON (Dow Jones)--The pound is nearly in freefall in Europe Tuesday as concern over the U.K. banking system continues to eat away at investor confidence.
      The dollar, meanwhile, is mostly higher, lifted by apparent optimism over the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama later in the day.
      The withdrawal from U.K. assets sent gilt prices tumbling as Jim Rogers, chairman of the Singapore-based Rogers Holdings, warned that the "U.K. is finished." Rogers was a cofounder of the Quantum Fund with George Soros.
      The decline in the pound has taken it down to a new record low under Y127.00. Sterling has also fallen to $1.3940, its lowest level against the dollar since July 2001.
      Negative sentiment has mounted over the last day or so as the U.K. Treasury's latest bailout of the country's banks, announced Monday as the Royal Bank of Scotland warned of a possible GBP28 billion loss in 2008, has failed to convince investors that the worst is over for the U.K. economy.
      Analysts said that investors were selling gilts not only because of the fall in the pound but also because gilt supply is set to explode as the government seeks to fund its various economic rescue packages.
      As investors pored over the details of the U.K. bailout and watched the RBS share price collapse by nearly 70%, risk appetite quickly declined.

      IMF's Strauss-Kahn says Britain may need help

      IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn has predicted that more countries, especially in Europe will need to go to the Fund for assistance. He further commented that it would not be inconceivable for Britain to need help - Reuters. IDEA: Such comments do little to restore confidence in financial markets. The fiscal pressure on UK government that is occurring as a result of the rescue packages will put further pressure on the GBP incoming months. However, if the economic woes increase and European officials are seen to do little to stem the tide, the EUR will also suffer significantly.

      Die Europäische Zentralbank (EZB) hat den Leitzins für die Euro-Zone im Kampf gegen die Rezession wie erwartet von 2,5 auf 2,0 Prozent gesenkt. Bereits vor einem Monat hatte die Zentralbank den Leitzins sehr deutlich um 0,75 Prozent zurückgenommen. Mit der neuen Senkung liegt der Zinssatz so niedrig wie seit Juni 2003 nicht mehr.
