Heavy [EUR/USD] selling is seen the result of an a large option expiry with talk revolving around a very large payout digital, ($20mln+), around 1.2830-35. Details very between sources though but all agree that one German name has been a very aggressive seller of spot Eur/Usd to force the print of trade under 1.2830 at 14.00GMT. As a consequence this leave specs with some weakly averaged longs on board and thus the possibility of a more extended stop search. Should this occur the appearance of sovereign buyers into the low 1.28's will be of little surprise.

      RE: Inside Day

      Hallo

      Inside Day

      Hallo
      Meinungen dazu?

[GBP/USD] is a beneficiary of a fresh bout of Usd weakness. A Merrill Lynch survey finds that fund managers believe the Usd is the leading currency most likely to suffer a decline over the next 12 months. Cable now trades above the 1.8900 mark, although semi official supply has been seen into the highs over recent sessions. The focus will later turn to BOE muinutes (7-1 f/c) and April's unemployment report (5.0k f/c) and wages (average earnings 4.3% y/y f/c) data at 8.30GMT, which could impact on the monetary policy outlook and therefore Gbp. Also on the UK front comes a speech by BOE's King. Given current Usd negative sentiment, a fresh 1.90 test looks likely. However, it is worth watching developments in the possible Cad 16.1bln deal between UK's Xstrata and Falconbridge, potentially Gbp negative.

The [YEN] has led the way higher against the Dollar taking trade back down to the sensitive 109.30 area. When last seen this level drew plenty of speculation regarding some large buy interest, and talk of pension fund bids has already resurfaced. No doubt we will hear of covert bids or BOJ rate checking rumours ahead, though the expectation of such suggests that we will see lower Usd/Yen levels yet. The major target lies within 108.80-00, and revolves around the defence of a large option barrier at 108.90, expiry next week. UK and Swiss sellers have been prominent in Asia, with a Merrill lynch poll of fund managers showing a clear preference for future Usd/Yen weakness. 49% of fund managers see the Usd overvalued, the Yen also seen as the most overvalued currency. Fund managers are also overweight Japanese equities, underweight the US.
